Dec: Independent Spirit in the Arts

An independent spirit is essential for many artistic disciplines and throughout our daily lives. Taking such a spirit beyond films and videos in this open event, discussion topics come from cross-examination of the new and well-established members in four closely-knitted industries to discover what independent spirit means today in film, theater, music and new media. How does independent spirit manifest in and react to Hong Kong’s current situation? What is its current state and future development?

ifva Young Filmmakers

 

From creative inspiration and concept development, hands-on technical workshops, studio-based production, guest sharing and field trips, the “ifva Young Filmmakers” education programme aims to provide training to local school students to think critically as well as to express creatively by using moving images.
Wong Ping (animator with unique visual style), Kenji Wong (mixed-media artists, mainly works in video, photograph, action and installation, etc.), Tiv Wong (documentary director, involving in community movement) and Joseph Wu (independent director with South Asian theme) visit schools regularly and make video with students under the topic of “Waste”.

“All About Us” – Student Creative Video DVD is released
 

“All About Us” is a creative filmmaking project for ethnic minorities youths, over 200 participates aged between 12 and 21 took part in this education programme for the last 4 years. Interesting stories created by a wide range of nationalities, including Nepal, India, Pakistan, Philippines, Sri Lanka and Japan and Vietnam, etc. 22 video works are now published in DVD with reviews from three scholars. Through their stories, the audiences can have a closer look on their unique lifestyle and culture.

Fresh Wave 2014 International Short Film Festival
Master Class with Yee Chih-ye

Presented by the Hong Kong Arts Development Council, Fresh Wave 2014 International Short Film Festival will be held from December 5-19 in Broadway Cinematheque. Tickets are now available for sale. Mr Yee Chih-yen is invited as the officiating guest of the Opening Ceremony this year, with his latest work, “Meeting Dr. Sun”, being selected as the opening film. Yee will also meet the audience and share his filmmaking experiences in the “Master Class with Yee Chih-yen” session on December 6. Registration is needed.
