“Indie is…” Hong Kong independent short films 1995 – 2014

What better way to celebrate the 20th year of ifva than to show previous works which embraces the spirit? Independent short films serve as an unofficial record of the history in Hong Kong. Over 60 selected short films in 12 free screenings, venues are situated across Hong Kong from the busiest central districts to the rural areas. First in the series of screenings will be A Tragedy Ahead by Cheng Chi-hung, the Grand Prize and Documentary Category Gold Award winner of the 1st ifva Awards. 13th February 7:15pm, the Hong Kong Arts Centre Main Entrance.

  CINEMA 2.0: Hard Cinema — Media Art Exhibition

Curated by the founder of art.ware Ip Yuk-yiu, the exhibition stages three internationally renowned artists - Rosa Barba (Italy/Germany), Peter William Holden (UK) and Gebhard Sengmüller (Austria). With old-fashioned 16mm and 35mm films, retro slide projectors and mechanic umbrellas as media, the 5 artworks hope to explore the physicality, materiality and spatiality of cinema. The exhibition also includes the work of the 20th ifva Awards Media Arts category finalists. These 10 media art pieces come from all over Asia including Japan, China, Taiwan, Singapore and Hong Kong.
